History of Murphy's Boot Shop and Repair
Charles Murphy started working for US Shoe Co. in Crothersville, IN manufacturing ladies shoes right out of high school. He became a foreman of the finishing room making him the youngest foreman they had ever had. As Charles loves talking to people, telling stories and hearing their stories, it was a good fit.
In 1974 Charles left US Shoe as footwear manufacturing was shifting overseas and factories were closing. He and his wife Nancy purchased a shoe repair service in Scottsburg, IN from Roy Miranda. Roy had opened the business after returning from service in World War II. When the Murphy's purchased the store in 1980 it was located in a corner of the Sale Barn on Main St. At that time it was strictly a repair shop with no retail footwear. Their first venture into retail was closeout and irregular cowboy boots from Texas Boot Co. Back at that time you could just drive to Texas Boot in Franklin, TN and load your truck with boots. Over the years the Murphy's took profits from both of their jobs and reinvested in the store to offer increasing numbers of styles of western and work boots. In these years the store also moved to 165 S. Gardner St. and in 1994 they moved again to the present location on West McClain.
In 2000 their daughter, Cindy and her husband purchased the business. As always it is still a family operation with the Murphy's, Cindy and her husband Vince, their children and other family all pitching in when needed.
We feel blessed to get to work together and to have so many courteous, kind and loyal customers.
